Birthday and ER visit

First off - my "Back to School" post didn't appear on news feeds for some reason, so click here or scroll down to read.

Jeremy's birthday was on Monday! We didn't do much, since it was the first day of school and he was gone all day and most of the evening, but requested lasagna & breadsticks for dinner and carrot cake for dessert, and I most happily obliged. :) School went well and he loves all his classes so far! He went to his first corporate presentation last night and has another one tonight with a company he's really interested in. It's happenin' fast!

Tuesday we had a little scare with Connor. I put him to bed around 8:00 and about 9:15 I heard him crying (not unusual - he wakes up a lot), so I went in to give him his pacifier to hopefully get him back to sleep. Well, I reached in his bed to grab it and I felt a puddle. I thought that was weird so I touched him and he was completely soaked in vomit. It was so scary. He was drenched from head to toe - his hair, his outfit, his blanket, and his sheet were all wet. I got him up and alerted Jeremy and took him out in the light and he was totally green and just looked terrible. I also noticed that some of the wet was green - not a good color for a baby who has only ever had breastmilk and a little rice cereal.

So we gave him a bath and then he continued to dry heave and more green yuckiness came out. I was freaking out so I called the doctor and a nurse called me back and said if he's vomiting green you need to take him to the hospital. Ah! So we panicked for a second trying to decide if we were all going or what (and looking up directions to the Children's Hospital since we had no idea where it was!) and then we decided to all go, so we got Eli up and headed out the door as quickly as possible.

Well 5 hours later (grrr!) the doctors decided it was just a virus. He kept dry heaving so they gave him some Zofran to help with nausea shortly after we got there, and that really helped. After that he was able to eat and regain some color and energy. They did an x-ray on his tummy as well as an ultrasound to look for a blockage of some sort, but didn't see anything, so they concluded it was a virus. I don't know what to think. It seems weird that he would get an illness when none of us were sick and nobody he came in contact with that day was sick. And he's a baby, it's not like he's running around with other kids or anything. I did give him rice cereal that night, and like I said before - the other 2-3 times I'd given it to him, he woke up screaming in the night. So maybe his body doesn't like that? I don't know.

Anyway, I'm glad he's okay and that he's back to normal. We got home about 3am and fell into bed. At around 12:45 Jeremy took Eli out to the car to drive around and hopefully get to sleep. He didn't give in until an hour later, but at least he finally slept. It was a long night, but luckily my baby's okay! :( That was not fun.

Yikes, poor little guy. Glad it wasn't something that he had to be admitted for.

scary! that does sound odd that they would just say it was a virus. i'm glad he's doing better now!

I know I already talked to you about it over the phone, but once again, that just sounds so scary and awful. I'm glad he's doing better, and I hope, hope, hope it never happens again, although it may. We'll keep little Connor and all of you in our prayers. I'm glad Jeremy's loving school so far, that's great.

Scary indeed! I wonder if he has a rice allergy? They always say to start with rice because it's the safest - but if there is an allergy or sensitivity, I know all sorts of weird symptoms can happen with allergies. And they can weaken your immune system. Just a thought I had since you said that the other few times he's had rice cereal he woke up screaming in the night. Anyway...maybe it's just a fluke too! I'm glad he's okay now!

Your mom told me about your scary episode with your baby. I'm glad that he is doing well. It is very likely that you will never know what caused his unusual symptoms, but we will all keep hoping that it was a one-time event without recurrence!
