I had never canned anything before in my life (except for jam with my sister, but that was really easy), so this was an adventure. I just got on Google and looked up some recipes and we decided to go for it! I was too chicken to try the spaghetti sauce, I think I was worried it would be disgusting, but I tried the salsa and it was quite delicious. So we ended up with 2 pints of salsa and 5 pints of spaghetti sauce. Like I said, a small batch, but we're proud we actually did it at all! We don't have a canner, so we used a big pot with hot water and everything so it would have taken forever to do a lot because we couldn't fit more than 4-5 cans in there at a time. But we had a good time and we're excited for our small contribution to our food storage!

Canning!
Well, we decided to brave the canning world. Yikes! Monday night, we spent some time in the garden picking tomatoes, pulling up our zucchini and bell pepper plants (they were dying) and weeding, you know. So, we ended up with a whole lot of tomatoes. So we decided it was time to do something with them. We canned salsa and spaghetti sauce! Woohoo! We did it last night and of course it took forever and it didn't even use half of our tomatoes and didn't make nearly as much as we thought it would. But, I guess we'll just have to do it again.

Good job!!!!!
That salsa looks good! I am sad because we didn't can any salsa this season:(
Impressive! And that salsa does look tasty as does the sauce. Congrats on such a great success! :)
Yummy! Way to go Sarah! Reading your blog makes me miss you. Wanna come over and play? I wish you could. :) Sounds like the showcase was good. I guess they've figured out how to go on without us, eh?
Love you so much! Have a good one.
