Dung Beetle and Deer Scat

Today the kids and I were playing baseball outside when I discovered a bunch of deer poop on our lawn. It made me really glad we have that netting over our garden! We haven't seen any deer in our own yard yet, but we know they roam the woods around our neighborhood/yard, so I'm glad our garden is safe so far. Anyway, as I was inspecting the poop (awesome, I know), I noticed a large dung beetle picking up the poop and storing it under the grass. It was fascinating! The scat was almost the size of the beetle, but it kept taking piece after piece and storing it down in some underground tunnel. Chances are, there has probably been a lot more deer scat I didn't know about in our yard thanks to Mr. Beetle.
(In other news - time to fertilize our grass. Yikes!)
