Friday night Jeremy and I went on another date! Now that he's working, we've made a goal to go out more often. We did not go out much at all the last two years, partly because we had no income and partly because we had no babysitters, but we have both now, so that is a happy thing! We had another girl from church come babysit the boys, and she just walked over to our house since she lives so close. Hip hip, hooray!
So I planned our date this time. We're supposed to take turns, but it seems like it's always my turn (ahem, ahem, haha). I heard about this thing called "Bite of Oregon" downtown where a bunch of restaurants come together at this park and have samples of their food that you can try. It costs money of course, but it was pretty inexpensive and the plates were small, so you could try several different things. Anyway, it sounded like fun and it was! We hadn't really been downtown yet, so it was a good thing to do. However, we both talked about how we are definitely not city people. It's nice to be near a city, but there sure are a lot of weirdies out there - especially in Portland! Ha!
The park was right along the river which of course reminded us of Pittsburgh - although Pittsburgh's waterfront is way better. Sorry Portland. You have other redeeming qualities. We also took Anna with us. Last time we went out she cried most of the time for the babysitter who was trying to get her to sleep and she'd been sleeping so terrible last week I knew she'd struggle again. And since she only breastfeeds it was nice to not have to work around the little window of time in between feedings. She loves the baby carrier though and she was just a perfect little angel for us! We forgot she was even there most of the time.
She's so cute here looking up at Jeremy. "Hey! I want a bite!"
We shared a few tasty things for dinner:
Above is the "Potato and Roasted Vegetable Hash with Smoked Wild Mushroom Reduction and Grilled Albacore Medallion". Whoa, that's a mouthful. And below is the "Banh Mi - Carved Tri Tip on French Baguette with Asian Vegetable Slaw". (I kept the brochure - no way I would have remembered all that).
We also tried some super tasty fish and chips (the fish part was to-die-for, the chips were pretty standard).
I forgot to bring a water bottle - bad idea. I was dying of thirst so we splurged on a strawberry raspberry lemonade. I told Jeremy I can't be expected to feed another human liquid from my body when I'm so parched (okay, maybe a little dramatic). :) And we ended the night with a slice of Dark Chocolate Pecan Pie. Oh my.
Above- you can sort of see a rainbow in the background. It was raining really close to where we were, but we were spared.
It was a great date! Jeremy said he never would have thought of something like that but he loved it and loved that I like to try new things. That made me feel good. :) Thanks babe! And we came home to already-sleeping children which is always nice. Win-win!

Yay for dates, and yummy food, and babysitters within walking distance, and sleeping kids, and rainbows...
I have always wanted to go to one of those! Bummer it was last week and not this week.
I always cry happy tears when I read your blog. I am just so happy that you have such a beautiful life! We love you! (and yeah, I completely understand not wanting to live right in the middle of the city - there are some real crazies out there - especially in Portland!)
Sarah you are so uplifiting, inspiring, creative and fun. That makes me want to plan some fun dates. You definitely have your father's knack for trying new things. It makes me want to go and try something new to do around here. Your posts are always so fun and you have such a happy upbeat attitude about life! It is very contagious:). We love you and I love that Anna was your happy little buddy on the date. Everyone seemed to enjoy the night! So happy you have babysitters close. Dates are the best especially when you have been home all week with three children 4 and under.
