Cannon Beach

Saturday morning we packed up and headed to the coast!  I have been checking the weather for the coast ever since we moved here and, being Oregon, it's almost always overcast/raining and 60s or low 70s.  Well Saturday's forecast was 78 and sunny!!!  So we just had to go.  It's only an hour and a half away, so it was a fun little day trip.

We got there about 10:15 and it was absolutely gorgeous.  Both Jeremy and I grew up going to the coast fairly often, but besides our cold fishing trip in Washington, we hadn't been to the Pacific Ocean in over 6 years.  As soon as we stepped out of the car you could smell the salt water and it felt like heaven!  We had done absolutely no research as to where to go, but we just parked on a little street and walked down and found a perfect spot.  We were expecting coarse rocky sand, but it was silky smooth and soft.
You can see the famous "Haystack Rock" in the background.

There weren't very many people when we first got there, as you can see...
 Family photo!
I love this little dude.  He's headed to the water with his supplies. :)
 Love those whitecaps!

So it was a good thing I took a lot of pictures when we first got there, because then the fog started rolling in.  See it off in the distance below?  The forecast said it would be foggy early and clear the rest of the day, but it was the opposite.
 It's coming...
Check out the blue umbrella - we're starting to lose visibility (and look at those cute kids too!)
 Happy baby!
 And the same view now....
And now - goodbye Haystack Rock!
It was pretty crazy seeing it just roll on top of us, but now we feel like we got the real Oregon coast experience. :)  Luckily we got a lot of sunshine too, so we got both.
That sand castle off on the back right got to be quite the attraction as more and more people came.  No, we didn't build it, but it was pretty cool!
It was a great day.  We felt the frigid water, built sand castles, ate lunch, looked for seashells and sand-crabs, and relaxed to the soothing sounds of the ocean.  We only stayed a few hours and then headed back once the boys were good and tired and ready for a nap in the car.  We'll definitely be back!

So pretty!! The Oregon coast has such beauty that it made me speechless when I visited there, years ago.

It looks beautiful! We finally went to the beach in the evening on Labor Day, we hadn't been in so long! We were not in very long because of a thunderstorm that rolled in, but the water felt like it was 85 degrees, and it wasn't hot outside since it was evening and overcast. We decided we should go to the beach in the evening more often!
